Flash Fiction 2026


The Worcestershire Literary Festival in partnership with Black Pear Press  are proud to announce the

Flash Fiction Short Story Competition 2026


• The competition is NOW OPEN!  

• Closing Date: Friday 1st May 2026

• Send us your best Flash Fiction  

  (maximum 300 words)  

• Up to three submissions  

• Entry fee: £4 per story or £10 for three

The Flash Fiction Winners will be announced at the LIVE Festival Launch event 

on Sunday 7th June 2026.


There will also be a live launch of the printed Flash Fiction  anthology later in the year, hosted by our publishing partners,  Black Pear Press.

Young Writers 2026

The Young Writers competition 2026


This year’s Young Writers Competition is

NOW OPEN - wonderful prizes to be won!


• Closing Date: Friday 1st May 2026

• The theme will be: ‘Wonder’

• Word limit is a maximum of 300 words

• One entry per young writer

  (supplied as a Word Document please!)

Age Groups (in current school years)

JUNIOR: School Years 3-6  

INTERMEDIATE: School Years 7-9  

SENIOR: School Years 10-12  


All entries will be judged anonymously by our judges.  

The judges have been selected for their experience in literature and related experience 

with Young Writers and will include  a director from LitFest.



The finalists will be invited to read their entries and receive their prizes at our LIVE launch event  

on Sunday 7th June 2026.


The prizes for each age group  

are as follows:

1st prize: £30 book vouchers  

2nd prize: £20 book vouchers  

3rd prize: £10 book vouchers

Plus trophies and personalised  

Certificates.


PLUS: Potentially the opportunity to have your work published in the Black Pear Press

YW Anthology later in the year!
